Cristiano Ronaldo, 41, recently suggested that the current season could be his final year in professional football. In an interview with Vogue, the Al Nassr forward said he wants to finish his career by leaving what he described as a “spectacular legacy.”

Ronaldo’s comments came just days after Lionel Messi, 39, expressed uncertainty about his own future following the death of his father, Jorge Messi.

Messi paid an emotional tribute to his father on social media, saying he was unsure how long he could continue playing football without him. Jorge had been a central figure throughout Messi’s career, supporting him from his childhood in Argentina to his move to Barcelona.

The timing of the two statements has attracted particular attention because Messi and Ronaldo have dominated world football together for almost two decades.
