Ashura Holidays Expected on June 25 and 26

14 June 2026

(Digital Itla) With the commencement of the holy month of Muharram, a two-day public holiday is expected across the country toward the end of this month. However, the final and official announcement will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee after the moon sighting decision. Initial astronomical calculations and expert forecasts indicate that the 9th and 10th of Muharram (Ashura) are likely to fall on June 25 and 26, 2026. The Government of Pakistan has designated these dates as public holidays, during which all public and private offices, banks, and educational institutions will remain closed. According to a SUPARCO spokesperson, the chances of sighting the Muharram moon on June 15 are extremely slim, indicating that Zil Hajj is likely to complete 30 days, making June 17 the expected 1st of Muharram. If Muharram begins on June 17, Ashura will be observed on Friday, June 26.
