What Will the U.S. Fast-Track Visa Interview Trial Look Like?

(Digital Itla) The United States has launched a new pilot program allowing tourist and business visa applicants to secure an earlier interview date by paying an additional $750 fee alongside the standard $185 fee.

According to foreign media reports, this "Nonimmigrant Visa Accelerated Appointment Pilot Program," announced by the U.S. Department of State on July 22, is being tested until December 31 of this year at select U.S. embassies and consulates.

The program is completely optional and aims to assist individuals with urgent travel needs in securing an interview within 10 days.

What is the New Program?

This pilot program allows eligible applicants for B1/B2 visas (for tourism and business) to secure an expedited interview date by paying $750 per appointment. This fee is separate from the standard visa fee, which must be paid prior to booking a standard interview.

According to the U.S. State Department, the program aims to process urgent travelers' applications quickly while maintaining all security standards.

How Does It Work?

• Applicants must first book a standard interview date by paying the regular $185 fee.

• If fast-track slots are available at their selected embassy, a "Paid Expedite" option will appear on the interview portal.

• Once selected, the applicant will have 10 minutes to pay the $750 fee to reserve the date.

Eligibility Criteria

This facility is available only to applicants who:

• Are applying for a tourist or business visa (B1/B2).

• Already hold a future interview appointment date.

• Meet all other eligibility criteria.

• Are applying at a U.S. embassy where this experimental program is currently running.

Does Paying $750 Guarantee a Visa?

No! The U.S. State Department has clarified that paying $750 only guarantees an earlier interview date, not visa approval. Applicants using the fast-track system will undergo the exact same security and background checks as standard applicants.

Important Rules

• The $750 fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.

• Fast-track interview dates cannot be rescheduled.

• If you fail to attend the interview, the fee is forfeited, and you must pay $750 again for a new fast-track appointment.

• Each individual in a group application must pay the $750 fee separately.

• Applicants whose initial visa requests were previously refused can also pay this fee to get an expedited interview if eligible.

This pilot program will run until December 31, 2026, during which more U.S. embassies may be included. While the main advantage for applicants is securing an earlier interview slot, the U.S. has explicitly stated that this does not speed up the visa approval process nor increase the chances of receiving a visa.
