(Digital Itla) In a major decision by the Lahore High Court, the facility of free electricity for government officials has been abolished. There is good news for the public as the free electricity units facility for officials has been ended, and they will now receive electricity bills just like ordinary citizens.

According to ARY News, the free electricity units facility for officers from Grade 18 to 20 of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has been withdrawn, and they have started receiving electricity bills like common citizens. For the first time in 30 years, half of the officers' salaries have been consumed by electricity bills.

LESCO sources revealed that Grade 18 officers used to receive 6,000 free electricity units annually, while Grade 19 officers received 8,000 units. Apart from them, Grade 20 officers enjoyed a facility of 10,000 free units annually. Sources further stated that this decision was also made for officers of Grade 18 to 20 in other DISCOs (Distribution Companies); however, other DISCOs obtained stay orders from courts to restore their free electricity.

LESCO officers argue that the restoration of the free electricity facility in other companies is illegal, as all privileges are already included in the salary. They demanded that the free electricity facility should be eliminated from all institutions across the country, and the Ministry of Energy should announce a uniform policy for all companies in this regard.
