11 June 2026
(Digital Itla) The Advisor to the Prime Minister, Rana Sanaullah, has stated that the "number game" to secure the government in Gilgit-Baltistan is actively underway. Speaking during a private TV channel program, Rana Sanaullah mentioned that the final picture regarding the numbers for government formation in Gilgit-Baltistan will become clear on the 15th, expressing confidence that his party will secure an additional 2 or 3 seats.
He further noted that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has not made any contact with them so far. On the other hand, PPP's Nadeem Afzal Chan claimed during the show that his party would successfully secure the required 3 seats. Meanwhile, PTI's Shahram Tarakai remarked that it would be better for his party to remain in the opposition.
Political maneuvering is in full swing to form the government in Gilgit-Baltistan, where a simple majority of 17 seats is required. Currently, the PPP leads the race with 10 seats, followed by independent candidates with 7 seats, and the PML-N with 6 seats. The PPP is reportedly considering forming the government without the PML-N by inducting independent members into its folds. The final results are highly anticipated on June 15, following re-polling at 26 polling stations across five constituencies.
