(Digital Itla) President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have stated that climate change poses a major threat to public health, the economy, and food security.

On World Environment Day, President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized environmental protection at both national and global levels, noting that despite low carbon emissions, Pakistan ranks among the top climate-vulnerable nations. He expressed deep concern over melting glaciers, floods, and heatwaves. President Zardari stressed the urgent need for efficient water usage, waste reduction, forest conservation, and biodiversity promotion, adding that renewable energy projects must be expedited. He called upon the youth, media, and civil society to play their role, stating that environmental protection must be a core pillar of national policy.

In his message, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan's unwavering commitment to environmental conservation, stating that Pakistan stands with the global community. He emphasized that protecting our environment is a shared global responsibility and that coordinated international action is imperative to tackle climate challenges. He noted that devastating floods, droughts, and rapidly melting glaciers reflect the harsh reality of climate change. Pakistan is among the worst affected countries, suffering massive human and economic losses due to environmental degradation. The PM urged citizens to adopt eco-friendly lifestyles and join hands to build a green, resilient, and sustainable Pakistan for future generations.
