NEPRA's Dual Decision: Electricity Prices Hikes on One Side, Drops on the Other
05 June 2026
(Digital Itla) NEPRA has simultaneously announced relief and an additional financial burden for power consumers. On one hand, electricity prices have been hiked by PKR 1.19 per unit under the monthly Fuel Price Adjustment (FPA) for April 2026. On the other hand, prices have been slashed by PKR 1.98 per unit under the first quarterly adjustment of 2026.
According to the notification issued by NEPRA, the hike of PKR 1.19 per unit will be recovered from consumers nationwide in their June bills. However, this increase will not apply to lifeline consumers, electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, and prepaid users. Conversely, the reduction of PKR 1.98 per unit under the quarterly adjustment is expected to provide overall relief of over PKR 67 billion to consumers. This relief will be adjusted in the electricity bills for June, July, and August. It will also exclude lifeline consumers, incremental consumption packages, and prepaid users. According to experts, when combining both adjustments, general consumers will receive a net relief of approximately 79 paisas per unit, as the quarterly reduction outweighs the monthly fuel price hike. Energy experts added that monthly and quarterly adjustments are permanent components of tariff setting, aimed at passing the impact of production costs, fuel prices, and other financial factors onto consumers.
