(Digital Itla) The Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has announced the date for the general elections. According to the Election Commission, the general elections in Azad Kashmir will be held on July 27.
Notably, the AJK Legislative Assembly recently passed a resolution to maintain the 12 seats reserved for Kashmiri refugees. The resolution stated that the representation of refugees is a historical and constitutional reality. It added that necessary reforms to resolve electoral complexities and make the process acceptable to political parties should be handled through the assembly. The resolution further emphasized that constitutional reforms are the exclusive prerogative and mandate of the people's elected representatives, and the matter should be left to the Legislative Assembly following consultations with political parties, bar associations, bar councils, civil society, and constitutional experts.
