Verification Process: When a user scans the provided QR code, they are directed to an online portal where they must input their CNIC, mobile number, and electricity meter details. Verification is completed via a One-Time Password (OTP).

The Intent: The system aims to cross-check multiple meters registered under different names within a single household. Data from NADRA, power distribution companies (DISCOs), and other state databases will be synthesized to evaluate the true financial standing of a household. Subsidies will now be granted based on household economic status rather than power usage alone.

Subsidy Volume: The Power Division notes that 86% of domestic consumers (29.57 million households) currently receive subsidies, with the subsidy volume expanding from Rs. 199 billion to Rs. 423 billion.

Data Security Concerns: The system faces scrutiny regarding data privacy and whether failure to register will end the subsidy. Meanwhile, the government has warned consumers to stay vigilant against fake QR codes and fraudulent links.
