(Digital Itla) Pakistan Muslim League (N) President Nawaz Sharif stated that while development projects are initiated in Gilgit-Baltistan, their completion rate is extremely slow, leaving citizens to face basic infrastructural issues. Speaking at an election rally, the former Prime Minister detailed his vision for the region:

  • Infrastructure Disappointments: Nawaz Sharif noted that during his premiership, he visited Gilgit and Skardu frequently with a vision to develop the region. He expressed grief over the currently dilapidated condition of the roads and questioned the delays in completing the proposed highway from Mansehra to Gilgit.

  • Past Achievements: He claimed that during the PML-N tenure, numerous projects including hospitals, hydel power plants, and the Nagar project were completed, but subsequent administrations failed to maintain the same level of focus.

  • Key Promises: * He pledged to talk to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to prioritize the upgrading and expansion of the Gilgit Airport to accommodate larger aircraft, boosting tourism and trade.

    • He emphasized providing easy interest-free housing loans, educational scholarships, and laptop schemes for the youth.

    • Regarding the Diamer Bhasha Dam, he noted that his government had allocated Rs. 100 billion for land acquisition, expressing concern over current delays. He promised personal supervision and regular visits to ensure completion if his party returns to power.
