France Withdraws from Miss Universe 2026, Fresh Controversy in Global Pageant

France had been a continuous participant in the Miss Universe competition since 1952; however, this will be the first time since then that a French representative will not compete in the event. In a statement released on Instagram, the Miss France company stated that it is withdrawing from Miss Universe 2026, and this decision was made to protect the organization's identity and core values. According to the statement, this step was taken following administrative flaws and concerns regarding certain matters that came to light during the 2025 competition. The organization clarified that this decision applies only to this year's edition and is not a permanent announcement to quit the pageant. Miss France President Frédéric Gilbert stated that Miss Universe has always been an important platform for global recognition for France, but the organization has a responsibility to make decisions aligned with its values. According to him, there remains a possibility of participating again in the future after assessing the situation. Following this announcement, mixed reactions surfaced on social media, where some users called it the right decision while others advised other countries to follow suit.
