(Digital Itla) The government of the United Arab Emirates has rejected Iran’s proposed administrative structure over the Strait of Hormuz.

Presidential adviser Anwar Gargash stated that there would be no compromise on maritime sovereignty.

He further said that Iran’s actions are a continuation of long-standing tensions in the region and that restoring trust in the region is only possible through responsible behavior.

The UAE presidential adviser also urged Iran to respect the principles of good neighborly relations with Arab countries.

Earlier, Iran had announced the establishment of a monitoring zone extending to the Emirati state of Fujairah under a new administrative structure for the Strait of Hormuz.

According to media reports, Iran made permits mandatory under the Gulf Strait of Hormuz Authority. Reports also stated that Iran introduced an unusual new system of permissions and monitoring in the strait.

Iran has additionally implemented a coordination and fee system for maritime shipping in the area.
