Umar Gul dismisses reports of differences with Shaheen Afridi

19 May 2026

(Digital Report) National cricket team bowling coach Umar Gul has rejected reports of differences with fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi, saying there is no truth to the claims circulating on social media. Speaking at a press conference after the end of the third day’s play in the Sylhet Test against Bangladesh, Umar Gul said he saw reports on social media in the morning claiming that there were disagreements between him and Shaheen Afridi, and that Shaheen was allegedly not listening to the coach’s instructions. Clarifying the situation, Umar Gul said the reality was completely different. According to him, Hasan Ali had been struck on the head by the ball during the match, and due to the risk of concussion, it was important to immediately assess the situation. That is why he spoke to Shaheen Afridi, who was sitting outside, and asked him to go onto the field. Umar Gul said that video clips and pictures had created a misleading impression, whereas there was neither any heated exchange nor any kind of disagreement between him and Shaheen Afridi.
