Strict Warning for Social Media Users in Oman: Up to 3 Years Imprisonment

(Digital Itla) Oman's Public Prosecution issued a strict warning against sharing private photos, videos, conversations, or personal information without consent on social media platforms. Under Article 36 of Royal Decree 61/2026 (Cybercrime Law), unauthorized recording, copying, transferring, or publishing of private content with intent to harm carries penalties of up to 3 years in prison, a fine of up to 5,000 Omani Rials, or both. The warning also applies to visitors and travelers arriving in Oman.
