(Digital Itla) A series of attacks on Muslims by Hindu extremists has broken out in southern Nepal, leading to highly tense conditions across multiple cities and towns.
According to reports, extremist Hindus removed a loudspeaker installed on a mosque's minaret, threw it away, and hoisted their extremist party's flag in its place. During the attacks, Muslim huts were set on fire, and several women were seen weeping and pleading for help.
This spate of violence began last week during an annual Hindu religious procession in Sunsari district, which borders India.
In view of the present volatile situation, a curfew has been imposed in the affected areas, and security forces have been put on high alert with increased patrolling in sensitive zones.
Meanwhile, Nepalese authorities have appealed to both communities to exercise restraint and maintain law and order.
