FAISALABAD 4 Oct (Digital Itla)— Director of Agriculture (Extension) Chaudhry Khalid Mahmood visited three quick response centers established near the Jaranwala Motorway to review ongoing activities for smog control. All three centers were found fully operational, equipped with water bowsers to handle emergencies.

During his visit, the Director met with field staff and members of the smog control committee to assess measures against stubble burning and smog prevention. He strictly advised farmers against burning crop residue, emphasizing that it is a legal offense. He warned that violators could face a fine of PKR 15,000 per acre, registration of a police case, and imprisonment.

Urging farmers to utilize balers for effective crop residue management and to incorporate stubble back into the soil, the Director noted that burning residue destroys organic matter and soil fertility, ultimately reducing crop yields. He also encouraged growers to adopt super seeders for wheat cultivation to enhance per-acre productivity while playing their part in protecting the environment from smog and pollution.
