Accused commits alleged suicide in Dina Police Station lockup; DPO suspends SHO and three officers

Jhelum 12 Oct (DIGITAL ITLA): A suspect identified as Irfan Jat allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself inside the lockup of Dina Police Station in Jhelum. The suspect was taken into custody following a grave complaint lodged by his 16-year-old daughter, alleging sexual assault.

According to police sources, the suspect's wife had separated from him approximately a year ago, after which the daughter resided with her father. Authorities reported that the accused was alone in the police cell at the time of the incident. Following the event, the body was shifted to DHQ Hospital Jhelum for an official autopsy.

Taking immediate action upon learning of the negligence, DPO Jhelum suspended SHO Dina Police Station Shoaib Kiyani, the station clerk (Moharrar), and two constables. Police officials confirmed that a high-level inquiry is underway to investigate the custodial incident, while further legal disclosures regarding the assault allegations await the final medical report.
