24 Eids, 12 Birthdays: Nishtar Hospital's Longest ICU Patient Dies After 12-Year Stay

MULTAN: A patient who spent 12 years in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Nishtar Hospital, becoming a cherished member of the medical staff's extended family, has passed away after a long battle for survival.

Asad was just 15 years old when he was admitted to Nishtar Hospital's ICU in March 2014 following a severe brain injury. Although he remained alive for the next 12 years, he was unable to speak or move due to the extent of his injuries and depended on a ventilator to breathe.

Over the years, Asad became more than just a patient to the doctors, nurses and hospital staff. His birthdays were celebrated annually inside the ICU, while he also spent 24 Eid celebrations in the hospital, surrounded by the healthcare workers who cared for him like a member of their own family.

Hospital staff recalled that Asad's room had become a symbol of compassion, dedication and hope, with doctors and nurses providing continuous care throughout his prolonged stay.

Last Friday, Asad passed away at Nishtar Hospital, bringing an end to a 12-year journey that left a lasting impact on everyone who cared for him.

His story has been widely described as a remarkable example of humanity and compassion, highlighting the dedication of the doctors, nurses and support staff of Nishtar Hospital's ICU, who stood by him throughout more than a decade of treatment and care.
