UN Peacekeeping Missions: Recognition of Pakistan's Role and Sacrifices, PM Shehbaz Sharif's Message

(Digital Itla) On the occasion of the International Day of UN Peacekeepers, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to the men and women serving under the United Nations flag. In his message, the Prime Minister stated that this day provides an opportunity to recognize the services and sacrifices of personnel who laid down their lives for peace across the world. This year's theme, "Fit for the Future, Building Better Together," serves as a reminder that political commitment and financial support are vital for global peace. He mentioned that over 2 million men and women have served in more than 70 UN peacekeeping missions globally, highlighting their importance in establishing world peace. According to PM Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan has a long and distinguished history of contributing to UN peacekeeping missions; since 1960, over 235,000 Pakistani personnel, including more than 500 women, have served in over 48 missions. He added that Pakistan currently fulfills its responsibilities as the fifth-largest contributor to UN peacekeeping missions, which is a matter of great pride for the nation. The Prime Minister further shared that over 4,400 Pakistani personnel have made ultimate sacrifices during these missions, including more than 181 personnel martyred while actively serving. He concluded that Pakistan is proud of its martyrs and the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives for global peace, writing a bright chapter in the service of humanity.
