Glacier Melting Raises Flood Risks in the Indus River

(Digital Itla) Accelerated glacier melting has once again triggered a surge in water inflow in the Indus River near Kundian.
An increase of 22,000 cusecs of water was recorded at the Chashma Barrage within 24 hours, bringing the total water inflow to 240,000 cusecs, while the outflow was recorded at 232,000 cusecs. The water level at the Chashma Barrage has reached 646 feet, filling all adjacent lakes of the Indus River to capacity. Currently, all 52 spillways of the Chashma Barrage have been opened.
