24 May 2026

(Digital Itla) At least 14 people, including three Frontier Corps (FC) personnel, were killed and several others injured in a powerful blast on a railway track near Chaman Phatak in Quetta.

The explosion derailed several train coaches and severely damaged the engine. Railway officials said the incident occurred with a shuttle train traveling from Quetta Cantonment to Chaman.

The blast took place as the train was passing through the Chaman Phatak area, causing the engine and three coaches to derail. The explosion was so intense that it was heard from a great distance and shattered windows of nearby buildings.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing a suspicious vehicle near the crossing shortly before the explosion. A fire broke out immediately after the blast and was later extinguished by firefighters.

Security forces cordoned off the area and launched rescue operations, while injured passengers were shifted to the Trauma Center of Civil Hospital Quetta, where an emergency was declared. Hospital sources confirmed that women and children were among the injured.

Authorities said investigations are underway, and all relevant agencies have been placed on alert. The federal railway minister condemned the attack, calling it an act of cowardly terrorism, and stated that such attacks could not weaken the nation’s resolve.
