New Progress in Pakistan-UK Relations as Bilateral Trade Reaches Record Level

(Digital Itlaah) British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott has said that relations between Pakistan and the United Kingdom have entered a new phase, with diplomatic, economic, and strategic cooperation continuing to strengthen.
She stated that bilateral trade between the two countries surpassed $6 billion last year, reaching its highest level ever, reflecting growing mutual trust and economic cooperation.
According to Jane Marriott, during the recent meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and British National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell, both countries reaffirmed their commitment to further expanding relations and enhancing cooperation in various sectors.
She said both sides agreed to promote collaboration in security, trade, investment, and development projects, while the UK also expressed deep interest in Pakistan’s reform agenda.
The British High Commissioner stated that the UK is Pakistan’s most important economic partner in Europe, with more than 200 British companies currently operating in Pakistan.
The combined investment of these companies has exceeded Rs910 billion.
She emphasized that British companies are playing a key role in generating employment opportunities, transferring technology, increasing tax revenues, and boosting exports in Pakistan.
According to Jane Marriott, the strong economic partnership between Pakistan and the UK is providing an important foundation not only for increased investment but also for sustainable development and economic stability.
