Iran-US Talks: Agreement Seems Both Near and Far, Says Ismail Baqai

23 May 2026

(Digital Itlaah) Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baqai has said that the ongoing negotiations between Iran and the United States remain complex, with an agreement appearing close on one hand but still distant on the other.

Speaking in Tehran, Ismail Baqai stated that repeated changes in the negotiating position of US officials are creating uncertainty in the progress of the talks.

He said the diplomatic process between Iran and the United States is a long and gradual one, while the lack of trust between the two countries remains a major obstacle.

According to him, America’s previous stance regarding Iran’s nuclear program is also being considered during the negotiations.

Ismail Baqai made it clear that no immediate final agreement should be expected and that the process will take time.

He added that Iran is currently focused on finalizing a possible reconciliation framework reportedly consisting of 14 points.

According to him, detailed discussions on the proposed framework may continue for the next 30 to 60 days, while diplomatic efforts to end the conflict are still ongoing.
