(Digital Itlaah) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has stated that Iran has the full right to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes. Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said that “Iran will neither negotiate nor compromise on its right to uranium enrichment.”
According to Russia’s state news agency TASS, Lavrov said, “The fundamental principle is that, like any other party to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), Iran has the full right to enrich uranium for peaceful energy purposes.”
Uranium enrichment remains a key issue in ongoing negotiations between Iran and the United States. Earlier on Tuesday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei reiterated that “Iran will neither negotiate nor compromise on its right to uranium enrichment.”
Speaking on the matter, he said, “It is absolutely clear that this is not an issue on which we will negotiate or make any compromise. Iran’s right to enrichment has already been recognized under the Non-Proliferation Treaty.”
Earlier, Iran’s Fars News Agency reported that the United States had set five conditions for the resumption of negotiations, including the transfer of 400 kilograms of enriched uranium to the United States.
