WAZIRABAD, Pakistan: A labourer in Wazirabad allegedly set himself on fire after dousing himself with petrol near a railway colony, with passersby putting out the flames and rescuing him, local sources said. The man, identified as Rizwan, suffered severe burns and was initially taken to a local civil hospital after receiving first aid from a Rescue 1122 team, sources said. He was later referred to a hospital in Gujranwala because of the seriousness of his condition.
According to accounts attributed to Rizwan, he earns a living by driving a rickshaw and has been struggling to meet household expenses amid rising fuel prices and the increasing cost of daily necessities. The incident has drawn concern among residents over the financial pressures faced by low-income workers. Residents called for measures to provide relief to families struggling with rising living costs. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
