Agreement Reportedly Reached Under “Islamabad MoU” Framework as Current Truce Set to Expire on August 17

ISLAMABAD, Aug. 12, 2026: The United States and Iran have agreed in principle to extend their ongoing 60-day ceasefire, although the final duration of the extension has yet to be decided. The current ceasefire is due to expire on August 17.

According to Turkish media reports, Washington and Tehran have formally informed mediators of their consent to extend the ceasefire. Both sides have agreed on the basic principle of maintaining the truce, but have yet to determine whether it will be extended by several days or weeks.

Agreement Reached Under “Islamabad MoU” Framework

The reported agreement to extend the ceasefire was reached under the framework of the “Islamabad MoU,” according to Turkish media.

Further consultations between the two sides are expected to determine the length of the extension and the arrangements for maintaining the ceasefire.

Heavy Military Escalation in July

The United States and Iran exchanged military strikes between July 8 and July 24. Washington targeted several sites inside Iran, while Tehran claimed it had retaliated by targeting U.S. military facilities and equipment in several Arab countries, including Jordan, Bahrain and Kuwait.

The reported agreement on extending the ceasefire comes as both sides seek to reduce tensions and prevent a renewed military confrontation in the region.
