FAISALABAD 4 Oct (Digital Itla)— A surface water treatment plant project worth PKR 22 billion, launched in collaboration with the Punjab government and the French Development Agency (AFD), is scheduled for completion by June 2027. The project will add 30 million gallons of water daily (MGD) to the WASA Faisalabad system, providing clean drinking water to over 600,000 residents in rural areas. Faisalabad Commissioner Dr. Imran Hamid Sheikh visited the site at Awagat to inspect ongoing pipeline laying operations. WASA Managing Director Saqib Raza and representatives of the French Development Agency briefed the Commissioner on the latest progress of the project. The MD noted that this represents the largest investment in Faisalabad's history—a vision spearheaded by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif—which will increase water supply capacity by up to 30 percent. Construction work is being conducted under the supervision of Chinese engineers and experts, with progress reported as satisfactory. The Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the ongoing works, describing the WASA-administered water treatment plant as a mega project and a revolutionary initiative for public welfare that will ensure safe drinking water for rural populations. During his visit, the Commissioner also inspected the project site in Mکوآنه (Mokuana) and previously reviewed the JICA-assisted water treatment plant at Jhal Khanuana, where WASA MD reported that the 5 MGD plant is currently benefiting a population of over 200,000.
