Summer Vacation Extension in Educational Institutions?: Will They Remain Closed Until September 1?

(Digital Itla) Important news has emerged regarding extending summer vacations in educational institutions until September 1 due to torrential rains.

According to details, an extension of summer vacations in educational institutions is likely due to monsoon rains and flood conditions in Punjab. A proposal has surfaced to keep schools closed beyond mid-August in severely affected districts.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has recommended to the Punjab School Education Department that schools in flood-affected areas should not be reopened immediately, as continuous rains pose safety risks to students, teachers, and school staff.

Sources mentioned that the proposal to extend school closures is currently with the Education Department for final approval, though a decision will only be made after assessing the situation.

The PDMA stated that educational institutions in affected areas should not be opened until floodwaters recede.

The Punjab government also ordered a comprehensive inspection of schools and other public buildings affected by the monsoon rains. The Communication and Works Department has been directed to inspect affected structures and present a report on buildings that have become unusable or dangerous.

According to the PDMA, the fourth spell of monsoon rains is expected to continue until August 5, carrying risks of urban flooding, landslides, and rising water levels in rivers and streams.

Further rainfall has been predicted across various districts, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Murree, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Kasur, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Chiniot, and Sargodha.

Warning of flood risks in low-lying urban areas, the PDMA has instructed district administrations and relevant institutions to remain on high alert. Landslide risks have also been highlighted in Murree, Galliyat, and other mountainous regions due to continuous rainfall.
