LAHORE: The Punjab Healthcare Commission (PHC) has directed all public and private healthcare establishments across the province to stop the procurement and use of conventional syringes of 10cc or below from January 1, 2027.

According to an official directive issued by the PHC, hospitals, clinics and other healthcare establishments will be required to ensure compliance with the new instructions.

The commission has also directed all healthcare facilities to enforce strict administrative and supervisory measures to prevent the recycling and reuse of single-use disposable items, including syringes, infusion and drip sets, and cannulas.

The directive further prohibits the reuse of syringes and infusion or drip sets and the administration of large-volume parenteral drugs to multiple patients, in an effort to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

Management of all healthcare establishments has been made responsible for disseminating and implementing the directives. Compliance will be monitored during PHC inspections, while violations will be dealt with under the Punjab Healthcare Commission Act, 2010, and relevant rules and regulations.
