(Digital Itla) The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has officially passed the Kalash Marriage Bill 2026. According to the text of the bill presented in the KP Assembly, marriages within the Kalash tribe will require mutual consent, mental soundness, a minimum age of 18, and the avoidance of prohibited relationships. Marrying first cousins will be banned within the Kalash community, and registration of marriages through a local registrar will be mandatory.
The bill states that marriage and divorce records will be safely maintained in government offices, while Khula, divorce, and the dissolution of marriage will follow Kalash customs. In the event of a husband's demise, property rights will be determined by traditional customs. Any violations, submission of false information, or failure to register will lead to fines and legal penalties. Notably, the bill was originally introduced to the assembly in April by the Provincial Minister for Local Government, Mian Khan Afridi.
