administration would address lawyers’ concerns and take steps to improve services at the district courts: Commissioner Imran Hamid Sheikh
FAISALABAD, Pakistan, Sept 26, 2026 (Digital Itla) — Divisional Commissioner Imran Hamid Sheikh said on Saturday that the administration would address lawyers’ concerns and take steps to improve services at the district courts.
Speaking during a visit to the District Bar Association with Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Nauman Siddiq, Sheikh said the bar and bench played a key role in ensuring justice for people.
He assured the lawyers that additional streetlights would be installed at the district courts and directed the deputy commissioner to take immediate action.
Sheikh also said an office would be allocated at the commissioner’s office for a member of the Punjab Service Tribunal, allowing government employees from the Faisalabad division to file appeals locally.
He announced plans to build an underground reservoir at the district courts to manage rainwater, saying a non-governmental organisation would be assigned the project.
Sheikh said four ponds were being constructed in the city under a project supported by the World Wide Fund for Nature, while a scholarship programme for public-school students was also being launched. He said bright children of bar association members studying in public schools would be eligible for the programme .
He said authorities were taking emergency measures to resolve pending property-rights cases across the Faisalabad division on a priority basis.
Responding to a question, Sheikh said the rehabilitation of Susan Road from Government College Women University had been completed ahead of schedule and road-marking work would begin soon. Asphalt work on the road from the university to Jaranwala Road would be completed within two weeks, he said.
The commissioner said a sewer line had been laid along the road and three leakage tests had been conducted to ensure its durability before asphalt was applied. The final test was cleared a few days ago, he added.
Sheikh also briefed the lawyers on plans to establish a divisional revenue court complex and introduce online hearings in future.
He said providing municipal services to residents of urban and rural areas remained a priority for the commissioner and deputy commissioner, adding that development work would be visible across the district.
District Bar Association President Mian Tariq Mahmood thanked the commissioner and deputy commissioner for visiting the association and said lawyers remained committed to securing justice for the disadvantaged.
The officials later visited a Quran class and inspected various sections of the district bar. Former Punjab Bar Council member Chaudhry Abdus Salam was also present.
