Iran Closes Strait of Hormuz Again Over Post-Peace Treaty Violations, Raising Fears of Renewed War

20 June 2026

(Digital Itla) Following violations of the peace agreement, Iran has once again closed the Strait of Hormuz, raising the probability of a renewed outbreak of war. Iran's central military command, the Khatam al-Anbiya Brigade, announced that the Strait of Hormuz has been closed to all maritime traffic. According to Iranian officials, this decision was made in response to alleged violations by the United States and Israel regarding the Memorandum of Understanding reached after the war. In an official statement issued on Saturday, the Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters stated that the US has openly violated the first clause of the agreed memorandum intended to end the war, while Israel is continuously violating the ceasefire in southern Lebanon. The statement noted that due to these actions, it was decided to close the Strait of Hormuz to ships and commercial maritime routes. The Iranian military command further added that this step is the first response to the breach of promises by the enemy. The statement warned that if the alleged aggression and treaty violations continue, Iran could take further measures to compel the opposing parties to fulfill their responsibilities. Notably, the Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the world's most critical maritime routes, through which a major portion of oil and gas exports from Gulf countries reaches the rest of the world.
