August 11, 2026: The 10 teams set to qualify directly for the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2027 have been finalized, with the tournament set to feature 14 teams for the first time.

South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia to Host

The 2027 World Cup will be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia from October 4 to November 21, 2027.

The six-week tournament will feature 57 matches involving 14 teams.

Pakistan Among Teams Set for Direct Qualification

Eight teams will qualify directly for the World Cup based on their ICC ODI rankings, while four other teams will have to go through a qualifying tournament.

Hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe have already secured automatic qualification by virtue of hosting the event.

Based on the current rankings, the other teams set for direct qualification are:

Pakistan
Sri Lanka
England
Bangladesh
Afghanistan

Afghanistan Strengthens Its Position

Afghanistan strengthened its position in the top eight after securing a thrilling victory over Ireland in Belfast, putting them in a strong position to qualify directly for the tournament.

Under the qualification rules, the teams ranked in the top eight on the ODI rankings as of September 30, excluding hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe, will earn direct qualification.

14 Teams to Compete for World Cup Glory

The 2027 edition will be the first ODI World Cup to feature 14 teams, with a total of 57 matches scheduled.

The remaining four places will be decided through the qualifying tournament.

With Pakistan, India, Australia, England, New Zealand and other major cricketing nations set to feature, the 2027 World Cup promises another major battle for the ODI world title.
