KARACHI, Pakistan — Pakistani actress Nazish Jahangir has spoken about her relationship with her stepmother, saying negative perceptions about stepmothers do not apply to every family. In a recent interview, Jahangir said her father remarried after her mother died and that her stepmother had taken good care of the family.
‘Stepmothers Are Not Necessarily Bad’
Jahangir said society has created many stories and perceptions about stepmothers, but their experiences and behaviour can differ from one family to another. She said her stepmother takes care of the family and also looks after her father, adding that she therefore could not say that stepmothers were inherently bad.
It Took Time to Accept the Relationship
The actress said it initially took her some time to accept the new family relationship. However, she said her stepmother's behaviour eventually helped build trust and allowed her to develop a close bond with her.
Drama Role Reflected Her Real-Life Experience
Jahangir also recalled playing a stepmother in a television drama, saying the role reminded her of her own experiences. She said she would sometimes call her stepmother during the production and tell her that the role had helped her understand what her stepmother might have experienced. According to Jahangir, portraying the character gave her an opportunity to better understand her stepmother's experiences and emotions.
