FAISALABAD, Pakistan 27 Sep (Digital Itla) — Agriculture department officials in Punjab province have stepped up anti-smog operations and set a target of 1.83 million acres for upcoming wheat cultivation, authorities said on Sunday.

Director General Agriculture (Extension) Punjab Chaudhry Shahbaz Akhtar directed field teams in the Faisalabad division to strictly enforce a zero-tolerance policy against burning crop stubble ahead of the paddy harvest starting early October.

The measures include 24-hour motorway surveillance, awareness campaigns via village conventions and mosque announcements, and promoting the use of modern machinery like Super Seeders to dispose of residue safely.

Officials also aimed to boost average wheat yields by at least three maunds per acre through certified seeds and timely November sowing, while setting a 100% recovery target for the Punjab Kissan Card scheme.
