Faisalabad marks Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day with patriotic fervour

FAISALABAD, Aug 14, 2026 — Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day was celebrated in Faisalabad with patriotic enthusiasm, national unity and a renewed commitment to contributing to the country’s development and prosperity.

The main Independence Day ceremony was held at the Commissioner’s Complex in Faisalabad. At 7:58 a.m., a siren was sounded, followed by the national anthem and a flag-hoisting ceremony attended by Faisalabad Commissioner Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh, Regional Police Officer Sohail Akhtar Sukhaira, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Nauman Siddiq, members of the provincial assembly and other public representatives and officials.

A smartly turned-out contingent of Punjab Police presented a salute, while vehicles and personnel from Civil Defence, Boy Scouts, Para Force, Rescue 1122 motorcycle units, Suthra Punjab, Parks and Horticulture Authority, WASA, Municipal Corporation and the Environmental Protection Agency participated in a march-past.

Students presented colourful tableaux reflecting national spirit and patriotism, drawing applause from the audience. The ceremony was attended by men, women, children, senior citizens, religious scholars, traders and government officials, who carried national flags and expressed solidarity and love for the country.

Addressing the gathering, Commissioner Faisalabad Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh congratulated the people of Faisalabad Division on Independence Day and called for a renewed commitment to playing an individual and collective role in the country’s progress.

Other speakers highlighted the importance of independence, paid tribute to the sacrifices of the founders of Pakistan and reaffirmed their commitment to the country’s prosperity and development.

The ceremony concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony and a special prayer for the security, progress and prosperity of Pakistan. The participants also planted a sapling as part of the Independence Day celebrations.

Later, Commissioner Faisalabad Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh, accompanied by Provincial Assembly member Mian Tahir Jameel, hoisted the national flag at Allied Hospital 2.

The commissioner distributed sweets among patients receiving treatment in various wards and prayed for their speedy recovery. He also presented certificates of appreciation to medical and support staff for providing healthcare services.
